Sites of Specific Scientific Interest are the country's very best wildlife and geological sites.

Catchment Sensitive Farming (CSF)
The England Catchment Sensitive Farming Initiative is joint project between the Environment Agency and Natural England, CSF delivers practical solutions to enable farmers to take voluntary action to reduce diffuse water pollution from agriculture to protect water bodies and the environment.
Energy Crops Scheme
The Energy Crops Scheme provides funding to establish energy crops e.g. miscanthus and short rotation coppice for personal / local use or to supply energy providers.

There are a number of schemes which are still in operation but are no longer open to new applicants. These include Environmentally Sensitive Areas (ESA) Scheme and Countryside Stewardship Scheme (CSS).
