Natural England creates (or derives) and then publishes a range of information and data. This information and data may be used by Natural England’s customers, partners and suppliers in accordance with our Terms of Use for Information and Data: (1.17mb). Natural England will undertake to inform you when the Terms of Use for Information and Data apply.

Natural England is in the process of changing to use the version of the Open Government Licence that allows free commercial reuse instead of issuing our own terms and conditions as the basis for licensing many of our GIS datasets and other appropriate information. We anticipate implementing this change in the first quarter of 2012 but please note that the Open Government Licence can only be used to license datasets that we fully own or with the agreement of any third parties with Intellectual Property Rights in the data. Personal or sensitive data will also not be provided under the Open Government Licence. In the meantime we have now suspended the administrative charge for commercial reuse of our GIS datasets.

Commercial licence

If you wish to re-use all or part of Natural England copyright protected information for commercial purposes, including publishing, you will need to apply for a licence. Our Data page will be updated during the first quarter of 2012 to provide details of the datasets that can be used for commercial purposes under the Open Government Licence without you needing to apply for a separate commercial licence.

Applying for a commercial licence will incur an administration charge of £120.

We reserve the right to charge a royalty for commercial reuse of Natural England information in the future. Where charges are introduced, they will be displayed on our internet site And our charges will always be transparent, reasonable and proportionate.
